Self Portrait vs the Selfie

What is a selfie?
What is a self portrait?
Is there a difference? If so, what?
What style do you prefer?
Is one more important than the other? Why?

A selfie is when a person takes a picture of themselves at arms length, with a phone.  A self portrait is when a person takes a photo of themselves with a camera. A tripod makes taking a self portrait a lot easier. the word, selfie, is a fairly new term to use for a self taken picture, but they've been around a lot longer than five years.

A selfie is easier to take than a self portrait because a person could easily pull out their phone, flip the camera, and take a picture of themselves. The self portrait takes more time to shoot because you have to set a timer and pose for one. Selfies, in my opinion, are less significant than self portraits because they usually represent one moment in someone's life. Again in my opinion, self portraits are made to define someone and what they want others to see them as.

I prefer to take selfies because that is the easiest and fastest way to capture a moment. I don't really like taking either because I like to capture the moment, instead of just my face, but they are fun to take with others. I don't like taking self portraits because I often change, and with a self portrait I define myself at that certain phase in my life. With a selfie, a person can take multiple and that shows the evolution of that person over time.
